Sometimes a visit to the vet just isn't convenient. Geriatric, shy, ill, nervous, and carsick pets don't always travel well. Perhaps you're not too fond of traveling, either. Taxiing multiple pets is another challenge facing many, while coaxing a horse into your backseat can be darn near impossible. Whatever the reason, a simple call to Lakeside Veterinary Services is all it takes for a one-on-one vet visit in the comfort and convenience of your home or stable.
Seeing an animal in its everyday environment offers valuable information that our veterinarians can only ascertain during a home visit. Are there multiple stairs that a senior or arthritic dog must walk? Does the house smell like cigarette or cigar smoke? Is there a yard or pen for the animal to exercise? These observations offer vital glimpses into the health and determined treatment of your pet. Both animal and owner are significantly more relaxed at home, another key to a thorough health evaluation.
"The physical exam is only a piece of the puzzle when it comes to figuring out what's going on, particularly when presented with an ill patient," explains Dr. Margaret, who has been making small and large animal house calls for more than 23 years. "I can see, smell and observe interactions and environmental factors that would possibly be overlooked during an office visit. Of course, some of this information can be extracted from the owner during an in-office visit, but I wouldn't have to ask when I step into the home."
At-home care in a familiar and loving environment is particularly important during palliative care and euthanasia, services Dr. Margaret suggests be done at the home. "I always prefer providing end-of-life care and euthanasia services at the pet's home."
Whether it's an annual wellness visit, an unexpected injury, needed vaccinations, palliative care, or peaceful in-home euthanasia, we're here to ease some of the burden for both you and your beloved pets. With only one mileage fee per house call, Dr. Margaret can treat multiple pets during a single visit. Treatment costs are the same as an office visit, so a personalized home visit won't cost you an extra week's worth of kibble. We also offer a 10% discount for senior citizens and physically disabled pet owners.
